Female Football Week, the Alamein way
This week, under the soft glow of the lights at Dorothy Laver Reserve West, Alamein FC launched Female Football Week in the way we know best: with heart, community, and a deep commitment to the girls and women who make our club what it is.
It wasn’t a flashy event or a media moment. It was a regular training night, but it became something more.
We began by recognising character
One player from every team was awarded a Good Human Armband, an honour that celebrates kindness, effort, leadership, and respect. These armbands aren’t for the highest goal-scorers or loudest voices. They’re for the players who consistently show up for their teammates and embody what it means to be part of Alamein. One of our dedicated volunteers received an armband too, reminding us that the spirit of the club lives not just on the pitch but behind the scenes as well.
Then, something special for our U13 NPL squad
Matildas forward Emily Gielnik visited the team, speaking openly about her football journey: the highs, the injuries, the doubts, and the mindset that kept her going. She reminded the girls that resilience is built one moment at a time, and that teamwork, hard work and self-belief matter just as much as talent. Her presence was generous and grounded, and the girls were left inspired and buzzing with questions.
Meanwhile, the smell of sausages drifted across the grounds
Board members and volunteers fired up the BBQ for a post-training sausage sizzle (free for players, gold coin donation for others). All proceeds are being donated to Women Onside, a not-for-profit promoting gender equity, inclusion, and visibility in sport. It was a small but meaningful way for our community to give back.
As the night wrapped up, there was laughter, connection, and a sense of something quietly powerful taking place.
Because Female Football Week isn’t just a campaign to us, and the messages of this week won’t stop at the end of seven days. At Alamein FC, we celebrate this week because it’s a reflection of who we already are, and who we’re committed to becoming.
