Club Statement: Under 16 social media ban

Effective November 2025

Alamein FC is committed to providing a safe and compliant digital environment for all players. In line with the Australian Government’s upcoming ban preventing children under 16 from owning or managing social media accounts, the Club will actively uphold these requirements across all activities, teams, and communications.

What this means for players and families

  • Players under 16 must not own, operate or log into team or club-related social media accounts.

  • The Club will ensure that all official Alamein FC social media accounts are operated only by appointed adult administrators.

  • Any team-based Instagram or TikTok pages must be fully managed and logged-in by a parent, guardian or team manager, not by players.

  • The Club will not ask, encourage or imply that U16 players should follow, like, comment, or engage with social media content if it requires them to bypass age restrictions.

  • Players aged under 16 can still appear in club content (photos/video) with appropriate consent, as permitted by law.

Identifying and closing under-age accounts

Some players or teams may currently run unofficial accounts that either use Alamein’s name or share content featuring Alamein players. These accounts must either:

  1. Transfer full login management to an adult, or

  2. Close the account entirely
    …by 10 December 2025.
The Board of Alamein FC will provide written reminders and direct follow-up where required.

Why this matters

This change aligns with Alamein FC’s Player Safety Policy, our commitment to safeguarding girls and young women, and our responsibility to model safe digital behaviour inside a sporting environment. It also protects players from breaches, platform enforcement actions and unnecessary digital risks.
