Philanthropy in women’s sport: how fundraising is powering our future
Recognise a familiar face? We were thrilled to see Alamein FC’s president Kathy Stamatopoulos and our Alamein Angels fundraising campaign featured on 9News Melbourne last month, alongside the CEO of the Australian Sports Foundation, Ryan Holloway. It’s inspiring to see women’s football (and the ongoing need for support from the community) gaining visibility on mainstream media.
Our fundraiser was created to help ensure that every girl who wears the Alamein jersey has access to the same quality of coaching, development and facilities as her male counterparts. Seeing this mission highlighted on national television was a proud moment for everyone involved in our club.
We also want to acknowledge 9News Melbourne and the Australian Sports Foundation for shining a light on the importance of fundraising in sport, and particularly in women’s sport. Across Australia, clubs like ours rely on sponsors and donors to bridge the gap between passion and opportunity, and every contribution helps us take another step toward equality in sport.
To clarify what’s said in this news report, Alamein FC is Victoria’s only all-female club competing at every age category of the National Premier Leagues (NPL). It’s something we’re incredibly proud of, and it’s at the heart of why our community continues to rally behind us. Alamein FC is a place where girls can not only play, they are also equipped to develop, excel, and compete at the State’s highest level. We are proudly all-female, which means every cheer, every opportunity and every win goes to girls.
We’re deeply grateful to everyone who has donated, sponsored and shared our story so far. The Alamein Angels fundraising campaign has already helped strengthen our programs and set a foundation for what’s to come, and with continued support, we know we can reach even greater heights together.
You can still donate (tax free) to support female sport at Alamein FC here, and information about our sponsorship program is here. The ASF’s State of Sports Fundraising Report is available to read online.
Thank you to Channel 9 and the Australian Sports Foundation for helping us share our message.
