Will she still play? What girls are telling us about the future of football

In Australia, close to 50 percent of girls quit sport by the age of 17. Not because they don’t love it, but because of challenges like confidence, lack of opportunities, not feeling good enough, or simply not being heard.

At Alamein, we want to change that story. We often talk about building elite players and “good humans” in our club. But this week, we did something even more important: we listened.

As part of Female Football Week 2025, we asked players from our Under 12 and Under 15 Development Squads a few simple, but deeply revealing questions:

  • What do you love about football?

  • What makes a good teammate?

  • What might make you stop playing? (And what would make you stay?)

The result is a short video called Will She Still Play? It’s just a few minutes long, but it captures something honest, moving, and urgently important. Because behind the smiles and shin guards are real thoughts, real doubts, and real dreams. Our girls are not just players: we believe they are the future of the game.

By giving our girls a voice, building pathways to elite football, and fostering a culture that values effort, kindness, and development, Alamein FC is doing more than running a football club, we’re creating an environment where girls feel seen, supported, and inspired to stay.

We hope you'll take a few minutes to watch this video and properly hear what our players had to say. If you’ve ever coached, supported, or raised a girl in sport, their words will stay with you.

And if this video resonates with you, please share it. Because the more people who listen to these young voices, the more chance we have to build a game that truly includes everyone.
